Limin is Senior Lecturer in the Chinese Programme at Victoria University of Wellington. Limin‘s research approach has always been interdisciplinary, spanning the late imperial period to contemporary China. She is interested in Chinese history, society and culture, with particular interests in intelligentsia in late imperial China, and its influence on and contributions to education and culture. Her book "Shaping the Ideal Child" (2005) represents her research on Chinese attitudes to childhood by examining primers and elementary education in late imperial China, which has received favorable reviews and citations in the past few years. Her knowledge of Chinese history and the history of Chinese education has enabled her to analyse issues relating to contemporary Chinese society and education in depth and from new perspectives, as exemplified by her paper (2006) on mass higher education and Chinese graduate unemployment which has been widely cited since its first publication in 2006. Methodologically, she worked on historical documents and also conducted survey research which formed the basis for her book on Chinese students in New Zealand (2008). Her papers (both 2010 and 2013) published in Frontiers of Education in China are illustrative in terms of how she connects history with contemporary topics.
